Planning a wedding on a budget

This is a subtitle for your new post

With coronavirus restrictions slowly lifting, and weddings allowed to take place again, couples’ thoughts are again turning to planning the biggest and best day of their lives. A wedding day should be memorable for all the right reasons, and planning a wedding takes careful thought. One of the most important parts of planning a great wedding is making sure you can stick to your budget. Otherwise, it’s very easy for costs to spiral out of control, leading to undue stress that could dampen your enjoyment on the big day. If your budget is low then you’ll need to think of creative ways to have the day you want for a realistic price. Here’s our guide to planning a wedding on a budget:

1. Consider the areas where you can cut corners
There are many costs to a wedding, and some will be more important than others to prioritise. For example, some people like to spend the bulk of their budget on a venue, however others opt to use a field or similar that they have free access to, thereby saving a huge chunk of money to be spent on other things. Wedding cakes can cost £1000s, or perhaps you have a friend who could make you one as a wedding present? There are cheaper alternatives to most things, so think creatively.

2. Keep your numbers down
One of the biggest costs of any wedding is the catering per head, and when the number of guests climbs then so too does the final bill. If you are strict on numbers and don’t allow that to change then you will be able to keep a much better handle on costs. If you’re on a very tight budget, you could consider asking guests to bring a plate of food rather than paying for external caterers.

3. Get crafty!
The cost of wedding decorations such as flowers, chair covers, garlands and other additions can really add up. Instead, consider making the wedding prep part of your hen/stag celebrations. You could get together and start making some beautiful wedding decorations, using the collective skills of your friends and family. The decorations will mean a whole lot more to you, and they will have a much more personal feel to them too. You’ll be able to pass them on to the next person you know who’s getting married too!

4. Stay organised
Keeping a handle on wedding costs means running a spreadsheet which lists every single aspect of the event. With a well-run spreadsheet, you’ll be able to see in an instant the breakdown of costs, and you can also keep an eye on the final spend figure. That should ensure there are no nasty surprises along the way!
