Whether you’re planning toilet hire for a wedding, for a sporting event, or for more long-term requirements, it’s important to work out exactly what you need. It’s easy to forget the fundamentals when you’re het up in the excitement of wedding planning, but that boho, weekend-long event held in a rural field is going to need toilets, handwashing, and shower facilities!
It’s also crucial to work out just how many WCs, in particular, you need. We’ve all been to events where the queue is miles long, and it really can impact your enjoyment of an event to know you’d better leave a good thirty minutes for every loo stop! Read on to nail down your WC and bathroom hire requirements.
How many are you catering for?
First off, how many facilities do you need? There are a few factors at play in calculating how many toilets you need to hire for your event.
A handy general rule of thumb is that:
- for an event lasting less than six hours, serving no food or alcohol, you’ll need to hire a minimum of 1 toilet for every 100 female guests and 1 toilet for every 500 men, PLUS an additional urinal for every 150 men.
- For an event lasting more than six hours, or serving food and alcohol (or both - e.g. a wedding, function, or sporting event), you’ll need to hire a minimum of 1 toilet for every 50 guests.
What are your toilet hire options?
There are a few options to fit your budget, as well as your number requirements. Basic, budget-friendly Economy toilets might suit your needs well enough.
For a wedding, special occasion, or sporting event (any ‘do’ where guests are smartly dressed, is a good clue) - you might be better suited to a Luxury toilet. These trailers look the part, and keep the standards of the rest of the event up - because one thing you can guarantee is that everyone will use the loo, and you don’t want it marring your guests’ experience!
If space is at a premium, or you just need small facilities for an intimate event, choose a Compact toilet hire option.
What about showers, and disabled access too? We’ll outline some of the WEThire range below, to illustrate some of your WC and shower hire options.
1 + 1 Compact Luxury Toilet Hire
A compact luxury toilet trailer is the perfect option for smaller events. Holding a big summer barbecue bonanza for all your friends in the garden? An intimate wedding? An event in a small, or hard to access, spot? With two separate toilets in a towable trailer, the Compact Luxury toilet can easily be manoeuvred into tight spaces and makes sure there are bathroom facilities available for your small event. They look the part, keeping standards high despite taking up the minimum in terms of your valuable square footage.
8 Bay Luxury Toilet Hire
Our eight-bay Luxury Toilet hire is the largest trailer in the WEThire fleet and is perfect for bigger events such as the races, bigger weddings, or local fetes. It offers a generous amount of space, with four WCs and two washbasins and vanity mirrors for the Ladies side, and four WCs and two washbasins and vanity mirrors for the Gents side too. The high-spec green trailer has chrome fixtures for a smart finish, so it doesn’t detract from even the classiest of weddings.
4 + 1 Luxury Toilet with Disabled Access
Accessibility is all-important, especially at events where your clientele is not predetermined and you have no idea of their potential accessibility needs. Generally, you should be hiring a minimum of one Disabled access unit for every two thousand people at a ticketed public event. This is the number needed to comply with the Disability Discrimination Act. If your event is private then you aren’t legally obliged to provide a Disabled unit, but you should always consider the needs of your potential guests. Look into your toilet provision plans when it comes to equality for everyone by having a read of this article.
Our 4+1 Luxury Toilet trailer is a toilet block accessible to all, offering one disabled bay alongside non-disabled access too.
The Disabled Access facilities have their own built-in, easy-access bay. This wheelchair-friendly WC bay has plenty of space inside to use a wheelchair and is accessed via a hydraulic ramp. As well as the Disabled facilities, this trailer comprises a Ladies with three WCs, two wash basins, and two vanity mirrors, and a Gents with one WC, three urinals, and two handwash basins. Finished with chrome fixtures, the trailer has a grey panelled wood effect outside and a modern finish.
18 bay Urinal Trailer
It’s always the Ladies who have to queue, isn’t it! Unfair yes - but as of yet, there’s no easy urinal-like solution for the ladies. Plenty of space there for innovation, and we’re sure it’s en route! Break the queue into two though, at least, by providing an 18-bay Luxury Urinal Trailer alongside the usual WC units. This cuts out most of the men from the regular queue, making it shorter for everyone, and fits more facilities into a smaller space.
A Urinal trailer is also a great choice where, on average, the event will attract more male than female attendees. This trailer is perfect for large-scale events like music festivals and outdoor sporting events. As well as the 18 wall-hung urinals it also includes five anti-bacterial hand gel dispensers.
2-6 bay Luxury Shower Hire
Yes, don’t forget the showers! If your event is lasting more than a day, you probably want to include showering facilities for your guests. Where there is no mains water supply, the water supply is too difficult to access, or it’s insufficient, for example, or where you are using a site differently from how it’s usually used (for example, setting up a marquee in a field!), a mobile shower unit is a brilliant option.
Whether it’s for a wedding where guests are invited to camp onsite, for a weekend-long music festival, or for some sort of seasonal, more long-term hire, such as a rural campsite or even a construction site, our Luxury Shower trailers may well be the option you’ve been searching for. We hire out shower trailers as 2-bay, 4-bay or 6-bay shower units,, so choose the right number of shower bays for the numbers of guests you’re hoping to provide facilities for.
The two-bay luxury shower unit, for example, offers two private individual shower cubicles with washing basins, and the four and six offer four, and six, laid out in the same way.
Mobile Hand Washing Station Hire
We don’t know about you, but we’ve all just about had enough of hand sanitiser. Yes, it’s an absolute God-send when there are no hand washing facilities, killing germs and bacteria and keeping us all healthy. However, hand sanitiser is no match for a proper hand wash with soap and water, when it comes to really getting clean. Our Mobile Hand Washing Station comes in either two or four-person stations, depending on your needs. Each sink is separate and individual and includes its own separate water supply, soap dispenser, and hand towel holder.
Questions to ask the provider when considering events toilet and shower hire
It can all seem overwhelming, but we hope that some of the information laid out above helped guide you towards what your requirements might be. Further questions you should consider asking when hiring your portable WCs, urinals, handbasins or showerblocks are:
- Have I calculated the right number of WCs (or showers or urinals) for my guests’ needs?
- How are they kept clean?
- What access space do you need onsite, and when?
- My site is x. The access to it is x (down a dirt track, over a field etc). Will you be able to provide units for this location?
- How big are the units I need?
- Do you provide loo roll, hand towels, and soap
- What are the delivery and collection slots, and will I have to be onsite
- Do I need to provide access to a nearby power supply?
- Will the units have light inside?
- Will they need a water supply?
- How will they be secured?
