How luxury portable toilets work
At WET Hire, our luxury toilet trailers feature traditional flushing toilets – similar to the ones at home – that use water to flush waste away. The water for flushing is stored in a hidden water tank and the waste is flushed into a holding tank. While this means that our trailers are completely self-contained, requiring no connection to mains water or sewage systems, it does also mean that the holding tank has to be emptied and the waste removed!
Emptying a portable toilet
The holding tanks in luxury toilet trailers have a finite capacity and when that is reached, the tank needs to be emptied. In the UK, this has to be carried out by a licenced company. The Environment Agency regulates the removal and transport of hazardous waste and awards licences to companies with the correct specialised equipment, to do this. It is an offence for non-licenced carriers to remove waste and it is illegal to dispose of toilet waste into the public sewer system.
At Wight Event Toilets, we are upper tier licence holders with The Environment Agency. We use a sealed system to connect the holding tanks of our toilets to the output hole of our vacuum pump trucks. The waste is then transferred to the pump trucks using vacuum suction technology.
Where does the waste go?
Portable toilet waste cannot be disposed of into a public sewer or a septic system. Hazardous waste must be transported to a specialist treatment plant where it can be processed and disposed of safely and in line with Government guidelines, without causing health or environmental issues. These guidelines are in place along with regulations that protect areas and environments against damage or health issues caused by waste disposal.
How are portable toilets cleaned
At the end of a hire period, after being emptied, all our luxury trailers are thoroughly pressure washed externally and contact cleaned on the inside. They are then deodorised prior to the next hire, before being delivered fully stocked and ready to use.
Portable toilet cleaning services from Wight Event Toilets
Our in-house fleet of vacuum tankers allows us to empty our own toilet trailers and to offer our services to other operators without their own equipment. In addition to portable toilet emptying, we offer septic tank cleaning and emptying, and cesspit emptying. As with portable toilets, the servicing and emptying of septic tanks and cesspits must be carried out by licenced operators and the waste deposited at authorised disposal sites.
