Luxury portable toilets vs. festival toilets

Luxury portable toilets vs. festival toilets – no contest!

What does the phrase ‘festival loo’ conjure up for you? We thought so! Read on to find out how WET Hire is redefining our idea of a festival toilet.

Hands up if you’ve ever been to a music festival? With over 23 million people attending a British music event in 2024*, of which almost 22 million were from the UK, the chances are that most of us have. Now, hands up if the toilet facilities were the reason you’ll never attend another festival?

At WET Hire, we don’t deal in the traditional portable toilets seen at festivals, we only supply luxury or economy toilet trailers, and here’s why.

Single use, portable toilets

You know what we mean – those little blue boxes you see on building sites, and the ones most people assume they’ll be using at festivals. They can be positioned en masse, making it easy for organisers to create dedicated toilet areas for large volumes of traffic, they don’t take up much room, they don’t need electricity or water, and they are great for tight budgets.

But… with no electricity, they’re not the best after-dark facility and with very little opportunity for ventilation, they can get very hot in the summer and very cold in the winter. With high volume use too, they are challenging to keep clean and a lack of running water and soap (they are equipped with hand sanitiser) can expose users to bacteria and viruses.

Don’t get us wrong, the portable toilet unit is a workhorse – it’s durable and functional and more than sufficient for low volume usage or for short term use. But with many of today’s festivals being family-friendly multi-day events, they fall short of the mark.

Luxury portable toilet trailers

Trailer-based, our luxury toilet units provide users with an experience in line with permanent facilities – comfort with hot and cold running water, flushing toilets, soap and hand lotion, lights and heating, vanity areas, and high end finishes.

The choice of trailers available to event organisers is exciting too! At Wet Hire we offer 12 different toilet trailers, in different sizes, configurations, and external finishes. Our customers can choose from units with a polished white exterior, a wood effect wrap or the rustic corrugated exterior of our shepherd hut toilets. And with capacity starting at fewer than 100 guests and rising to in excess of 400, our trailers are perfect for every size of festival. Expecting bigger crowds? We can advise on the best combo of units for your needs.

Our article Luxury toilet hire – your choice of luxury toilet trailers gives you an idea of the trailers available but please note it was written before we acquired our shepherd hut toilets which we think are really special and perfect for your country side events. Find out more about them in Shepherd’s hut toilet hire - introducing our latest luxury portable toilet.

Accessible toilet hire

Today’s modern festivals welcome families and visitors supported by carers, so organisers need to ensure adequate provision for their needs. We offer our DDA-compliant luxury disabled toilet which boasts a luxurious and spacious interior accessed via a foldable ramp. The unit also has an integral, drop-down baby changing station. Additionally, our all-in-one 4+1 luxury toilet with disabled access has its own disabled bay and baby changing station. The twin axle trailer feature a men’s section with one gent’s toilet and three urinals and a women’s section with three toilets. The disabled bay is at the rear of the trailer and accessed by a hydraulic ramp.

Luxury toilet hire prices

We know that trailer based portable toilets come in at a higher price point than single-use toilets but we also know that every event has its own set of requirements. This is why we always create tailored, bespoke quotes for every client based on their specific needs. Individual product pages feature a ‘price from’ and a comprehensive price list can also be seen. As a guide, our smallest unit, the 1+1 luxury toilet starts from £495 +VAT (at time of writing).

What about organisers on a budget?

At WET Hire, we believe that working to a tighter budget doesn’t have to mean compromising on quality! Which is why we have our 2 Bay Economy Toilet and our 4 Bay Economy Toilet. Featuring individual cubicles with flushing toilets, foot-operated basins with running water and hand soap, and solar powered lighting, these trailers do not need a water or electricity supply and offer all the facilities of a permanent loo without any of the frills.
